Creamy mushrooms with grilled meat

There’s something so comforting about the combination of perfectly grilled meat and a rich, velvety mushroom sauce. It’s simple, hearty, and absolutely delicious. For this version, I used a juicy steak, grilled just the way I like it, then laid it over a bed of creamy mushrooms.

But the beauty of this dish is how versatile it is! You can easily swap the steak for whatever you prefer – tender chicken breast, flavorful pork, or even a delicate fish fillet. The creamy mushrooms tie everything together, adding depth and that cosy, restaurant-style flavour we all love.

Serve it with a crisp salad, pickles, or even a slice of fresh bread to soak up that dreamy sauce, and you’ve got yourself an easy, elegant meal that never disappoints.

Ingredients: (for 2 portions)

  • ~250 g of meat (I used steak)
  • 1 large yellow onion
  • 1 large zucchini
  • 250 g champignon mushrooms
  • 200 ml cooking cream
  • 1 heaping tablespoon BBQ spice mix
  • 1 heaping tablespoon Italian seasoning mix
  • 30 g butter
  • salt + pepper
  • 1 cube soup concentrate

Preparation:

Wash the zucchini, slice it lengthwise in half, then cut it into even pieces. Peel the onion, cut it in half, and slice it evenly. Clean the mushrooms and slice them into thin, uniform slices.

Heat a deep pan and melt the butter. Once it’s melted, add the onion and zucchini, and sauté them for about 3 minutes until they start to soften.

Next, add the mushrooms, stir well, and cook for about 3 minutes, stirring occasionally. Sprinkle in the seasoning and the crumbled stock cube, mix everything thoroughly, and let it cook for another minute. Then pour in the cooking cream, stir again, and let it simmer for 3–4 minutes, or until the sauce thickens slightly.

Meanwhile, cook the meat on the grill. I used steak. Let it come to room temperature first, drizzle it with a bit of olive oil, season it with salt and pepper, and grill it on an electric grill (or any kind of grill or pan you have or like) for a few minutes until perfectly done. You can follow the same steps with any meat or fish you prefer.

Divide the creamy mushrooms evenly between two plates, then place the grilled meat on top. You can serve it with a fresh salad or some pickles, and it goes perfectly with a slice of toasted bread.

If you try the recipe, let me know how you liked it! 😊
