Chocolate Crinkles

These Chocolate Crinkle Cookies are rich, fudgy, and bursting with deep cocoa flavour, everything you want in a classic treat. With their crackled, powdered sugar coating and soft, brownie-like centre, they’re as beautiful as they are delicious.

Best of all, they’re incredibly easy to make and guaranteed to impress at any gathering.

Whether you’re baking for a festive occasion or simply craving something sweet and chocolatey, these cookies are a must-try!

Ingredients:

  • 15 g baking powder
  • Rum extract (2 vials or 2 teaspoons) – you can also use vanilla if that’s your preferred flavor, but rum pairs wonderfully with chocolate
  • 200 g dark chocolate
  • 100 g brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 70 g butter
  • 200 g flour
  • ~150 g vanilla powdered sugar

Preparation:
Start by gently melting the chocolate and butter together in a heavy-bottomed saucepan over low heat, stirring continuously. Once fully melted and smooth, remove from heat. Be careful not to let the mixture come to a boil.

In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs and brown sugar with a hand mixer for a few minutes, until the sugar dissolves and the mixture becomes light and airy. Add the melted chocolate and the rum (or vanilla) extract, then continue mixing until fully combined. Gradually add the flour and mix just until incorporated. Don’t overmix.

Transfer the dough to a clean bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and place it in the freezer for about 45 minutes to firm up.

Once the dough has chilled, preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F). Line a baking tray with parchment paper and place the powdered sugar in a separate bowl, ready for coating.

Scoop equal portions of the dough with a spoon, roll them into balls using your hands, gently flatten them, then coat each one thoroughly in powdered sugar. Place the coated dough balls onto the prepared baking tray. Repeat until all the dough is used.

Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 12 minutes. Once done, take the tray out and let the cookies cool for about 10 minutes in the tray before transferring them to a serving plate.

These cookies are absolutely delicious. If you’re a chocolate lover, they’re bound to become a favourite. And even if chocolate isn’t usually your thing, the soft texture and rich flavour of these cookies will win you over from the very first bite. Trust me: you need to give them a try!
