Appetizer – Sausages in dough

4 ingredients, 0 stress, 100% devoured in minutes.

Need a quick snack for a picnic, party, BBQ, random guest invasion, or just because you’re hungry and can’t be bothered? These sausages in dough have your back. They’re crispy, tasty, and ridiculously easy: basically the superhero of appetizers.

The best part? You only need 4 ingredients (yes, four!), which means no endless shopping lists or panicked ingredient swaps. You’ll have these beauties prepped and in the oven before anyone can even ask, “Hey, what are we eating?”

They’re crowd-pleasers, kid-approved, and dangerously snackable. Serve them with mustard, ketchup, or just straight off the tray.

Ingredients:

  • Seed mix (I used poppy seeds, black sesame, and sunflower seeds)
  • 1 pizza dough
  • Sausages – spicy, smoked, chorizo-style, or your favorites; whatever you choose, no matter which type you go for, try to choose sausages with a clean label and quality ingredients. If we’re going to indulge in deli meats (which hopefully isn’t too often! 😄), we might as well make it count with something actually decent and of good quality.
  • 1 egg

Preparation:

Give the sausages a quick rinse. If they’re on the longer side (like mine were), cut them in half. Place them in a grill pan without any oil and cook them for a few minutes until lightly browned and just a bit crispy.

Preheat the oven to 180°C and let it heat up.

Lightly flour your work surface, then roll out the pizza dough a bit more with a rolling pin. Use a knife or pastry cutter to slice the dough into as many strips as you need for your sausages. Line a baking tray with parchment paper. Wrap each sausage in a strip of dough, making sure to seal the ends well so everything stays snug during baking.

As you wrap each sausage in dough, place it directly onto the prepared baking tray. Once all the sausages are wrapped, beat the egg in a small bowl using a fork. Using a pastry brush, lightly coat each dough-wrapped sausage with the beaten egg. Generously sprinkle the seed mix over the top for extra crunch and flavor.

Bake in the preheated oven for 15–20 minutes, or until the dough is golden and beautifully browned. Take them out and let them cool slightly before serving. They go great with all kinds of dips: mustard, ketchup, guacamole, cheese sauce, or whatever you’re into. Or skip the sauces altogether. I personally love them just as they are. 🙂

If you try the recipe, let me know how you liked it! 😊
