Fish is one of my favorite foods, and I enjoy many varieties.
It tastes amazing when grilled. The smoky aroma when grilled is something you won’t forget.
Baking it in the oven is a gentler option for the home, but the flavor won’t be quite as rich and intense as when it’s grilled.
Ingredients:
- cleaned and washed fish (I had something in the same family as the mackerel)
- lemon sliced
- fresh mint sprigs
- salt + pepper
- olive oil

The fish gets washed and gently scored on both sides. Then you put it in a bowl, sprinkle salt, pepper, and olive oil over it, and mix everything well so the seasoning spreads evenly.

Wash the lemon, cut it in half lengthwise, then slice it evenly. Stuff each mackerel with lemon slices and a bit of fresh mint. Tie them up with some string so nothing falls out when you’re moving them on and off the grill.

If needed, give the fish a bit more salt, drizzle some olive oil on them, put them on a tray, and pop them in the fridge for at least 2 hours before grilling.

Grill the fish until the skin is crispy and looks cooked through. It doesn’t take long to cook, so be careful not to burn it. Since it’s a fatty fish, it can burn quickly if you’re not watching it closely. We served ours with polenta and roasted asparagus with Grana Padano cheese.

If you try the recipe, let me know how you liked it! 😊
